Grant Guidelines

The Detroit Industrial School is a community-based private foundation established to provide funding for projects that directly benefit children. The limited funds must be given to tri-county (Wayne, Macomb and Oakland) area non-profit agencies serving children of the greatest need and the least access to funds from other sources.



Primarily funded are agencies serving deserving children and those with special needs. There must be no racial or religious discrimination in the agency’s service to children.

Applications must be received by:
September 1st for October Grants
 March 1st for May Grants.

Grants are awarded for specific purposes such as:

  • Basic needs (food, clothing, emergency shelter, etc)
  • Tutoring and reading programs for children
  • Educational and cultural enrichment programs
  • Recreational and educational supplies and equipment
  • Specialized equipment for disabled children
  • Field trips
  • Skill training projects
  • Camperships
  • Pilot projects are considered

We do not allocate funds for:

General fund-raising campaigns
Tuition / Scholarships
Annual operations budgets
Capital expenditures
Salaries
