GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR GRANTS

The Detroit Industrial School is a community-based private foundation established to provide funding for the projects that directly benefit children. Its limited funds must always be given to Tri-County (Wayne, Oakland, Macomb) area non-profit agencies serving children where there is the greatest need and the least access to funds from other sources.

Primarily funded are agencies serving deserving children and those who support special needs. There must be no racial or religious discrimination in the agency’s service to children.

Application must be received by:
SEPTEMBER 1 for October grants and
MARCH 1 for May grants

Grants in amounts up to $5,000 are awarded for specific purposes such as:
Basic needs (food, clothing, emergency shelter, etc.)
Tutoring and reading programs for children
Educational and cultural enrichment programs
Recreational and educational supplies and equipment
Specialized equipment for disabled children
Field trips
Skill training projects
Camperships

(Pilot projects are considered)

We do not allocate funds for:
General fund-raising campaigns
Tuition/scholarships
Annual operating budgets
Capital expenditures
Salaries
